The School of Microelectronics of Fudan University (SME), approved by the Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission, was founded in 2002 in Pudong Zhangjiang campus of Fudan University with support from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Shanghai Municipal Government.
SME was founded in 2002 with strengths combined from the discipline ¡°Microelectronics and Solid State Electronics¡± which enjoys a history of decades. As early as 1958, Prof. HUANG Kun and Prof. XIE Xide participated in the project of uniting five universities and established the first semiconductor discipline in the country. In response to the fast growth of the semiconductor in Shanghai and China, Fudan microelectronics has made tremendous progress in the past two decades. It became national key discipline in 1988. The ASIC & System State Key Lab was established in 1992. SME was founded in 2002 and was made one of the first nine ¡°National Bases for IC Talent Cultivation¡±. With years of efforts, Fudan has made many achievements and developed a teaching and research faculty with rich experience in fields of SoC design, IC CAD, new semiconductor fabrication technologies, structures and devices, microelectronic mechanical systems, etc.
In 2004, as a portion of Phase 2 of the ¡°Ninth Five-year Plan¡± approved by the Ministry of Education, Fudan has established the ¡°Micro/Nanoelectronics Science and Technology Innovation Platform¡±, aiming to incorporate advanced Micro/Nanoelectronic research, comprehensive development of key IC technologies and talent cultivation in the related fields to become an open, cooperative, interactive, and resource sharing platform. By developing the platform, Fudan endeavors to attain the world level research and technology transfer in microelectronics and to speed up China¡¯s shift from a big IC products consumer to a strong IC technologies leader in the next ten years.
